Gifts for Vinyl Lovers: A Maker's Guide by Budget

Buying for someone who collects records is harder than it looks. They already own the records they want, and they're particular about how they're kept. This guide is the shortlist we'd give a friend. Everything here is made in our Cardiff workshop and is aimed at people who actually play their records, not just display them.

Before you buy: three quick questions

  1. How big is the collection? A few dozen records on a sideboard suits a ledge or a slim browser. Hundreds of records on shelving, often an IKEA Kallax, means dividers will get used every day.
  2. Do they file left-to-right or right-to-left? This depends on which way the records face on the shelf. Our LP Short Stops come in both versions. If you're not sure, have a quiet look at their shelves first.
  3. Oak or walnut, brass or steel? Look at the rest of their furniture. Oak suits most homes. Walnut suits darker, mid-century rooms. Raw steel looks more industrial, and brass is warmer.

Under £40: the stocking filler they'll use daily

LP Short Stops, pack of 6 (£36.95). These are record dividers with a stop that catches the front edge of the shelf, so every divider overhangs by the same amount and the letters stay visible. The letters are cut right through, and the dividers are real oak veneer. The 6-pack covers A–Z in groups, which is a good place to start for a growing collection.

A hand holding a light natural wood magnetic letter sorter card showing 'A-D', with other cards displaying 'I-L' and 'E-H' stacked behind it on a white background.

Classic LP Dividers (from £12.95). Full-length dividers with letters on both ends, so they read from either side. An easy small gift.

Under £100: for the serious collector

LP Short Stops, packs of 13 or 26 (£64.95 / £84.95). These are for someone with a large collection. The 26-pack gives every letter its own divider.

The Compound Now Playing LP Ledge (from £54.95). A slim wall ledge that holds the record currently playing face-out, with the sleeve held by brass pins. It's a small piece, but it changes how they use their records.

A square abstract art print or canvas mounted on a wooden display stand against a light gray wall. The artwork features a bright red background with a large yellow paint-splatter sun shape and a central blue circle containing two black-and-white oval eyes.

Matt Colour Pop LP Dividers (from £49.95). Acrylic dividers in six colours, for a brighter, less traditional setup.

The big one

The Compound Vinyl LP Shelf (from £189.95). A solid hardwood shelf with a brass or steel bar that keeps the front-facing sleeves secure. It's the piece most of our vinyl customers start with.

The Compound LP Browser / Slim (from £229.95). A freestanding box that holds records front-facing, cut from a single board and standing on cork feet. It's a good fit for someone without wall space, or anyone who likes flicking through records by the turntable.

A light oak wooden record holder with a slatted front, holding several vinyl records, set on a light wood tabletop against a neutral off-white background.
